The Career Advantage Program (CAP) is a mentoring program offered through the Marshall Undergraduate Career Services Office, and provides sophomore, junior and senior-level undergraduates (majors only) the opportunity to be paired with alumni who assist them in developing professional, interpersonal, and networking skills.
FOR STUDENTS
Participating in CAP requires a commitment from all students. CAP is a year-long program (except in some cases with IEP and transfer students who join in spring). Mentoring relationships are two-way and you WILL need to contribute and attend all of the events that your mentor and your team plan -- you will need to submit your RSVP through the CAP Portal. Late cancellations (less than 48 business hours) and no shows for mandatory CAP events will be charged a $25 fee. Only excusable absences are class, interview, or illness. If you fail to RSVP via the CAP Portal for a mandatory event and do not show, you will be charged the $25 fee– regardless of reason for missing the event. Thus, always be sure to RSVP in the CAP Portal.
Students who back out on mentors at the last minute, who do not respond to mentor emails in a timely fashion, who do not show interest in the program, etc. will be removed from the program as necessary.
Please be sure to think about WHY you want to join the program before applying. This program is for students who want to gain insights into specific industries, seek general career guidance, practice career development and recruiting skills, and enhance their overall career development. If you are looking for a direct link to a job or internship, this is not the program for you. Please also be mindful not to over schedule yourself! For information about how to apply to CAP:
